SUMMARY OF POSITION

Professional work engaging in primary health care decision making for inmates at the Hampshire Sheriff’s Office Jail and House of Correction. Practices, plans, implements, supervises and promotes health maintenance to the offender population in accordance with Department policy, the State, the American Correctional Association, and the National Commission on Correctional Health Care. Specific responsibilities include working in conjunction with the Medically-Assisted Treatment Program Director to ensure best practices are developed and implemented while administering the MAT program in accordance with all state and federal guidelines.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Works under the direction of the Physician, in conjunction with the Health Services Administrator, as the designated health authority in providing the necessary mechanisms for quality health care.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES / ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Assists with supervision of the Medical Department to include all personnel assigned to the Medical Department and schedules work times.  Assists nursing functions of the Medical Department.
  2. Assists with developing and editing medical protocols; including but not limited to MAT, as necessary. Ensures standards and compliance are met related to ACA, NCCHC, MA state and all Federal laws.
  3. Assist in all departmental functions, medical records, daily sick call, physical examinations, medication orders, communicable disease control, and operations.
  4. Has direct contact with the offender population, providing direct primary health care in collaboration with the physician.
  5. Uses sound clinical judgment in assessing, planning, implementing, documenting, and evaluating nursing care.
  6. Provides acute and chronic health care and physical examinations. Diagnose health condition and illnesses.
  7. Supervises medical care and needs of the offender population.
  8. Assures safety, security, and cleanliness of medical area.
  9. Insures proper distribution of prescribed medications.
  10. Works directly with all physicians administering to the offender population.
  11. Works closely with Human Services personnel regarding mental health needs of the offender population.
  12. Promotes good health practices. Maintains accurate records and schedules.
  13. Address any exceptional problem cases with physician and shift supervisors.
  14. Participates in the formulation of policy for facility medical service in cooperation with the Administration.
  15. Supervises and evaluates Medical Department staff’s job performance as needed.
  16. Any other task or responsibility as assigned or required.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • A minimum of a Master’s Degree, with licensure as a provider and proven experience as a Nurse Practitioner in a clinic, hospital, ER or other related settings.
  • Demonstrated qualities of integrity, dependability and strong work ethics
  • Experience with medically assisted treatment (MAT) preferred.


SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Knowledge of acute and chronic health care management and emergency procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with both staff and the offender population.
  • Team approach with a positive attitude.
  • Willingness to continue gaining knowledge and experience in the fields of health services and corrections.
  • Valid Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistance license
  • Must successfully pass a background investigation.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

Performance of duties providing care with working conditions that may present risk of injury typically associated with working in a correctional facility setting with an offender population.

Correctional Officer

The Correctional Officer duties include, but are not limited to the following: responsible for the care, custody and supervision of inmates in a correctional institution. This includes but is not limited to, daily supervision of inmate occupational, vocational, rehabilitation and recreational activities. The Correctional Officer performs related work as required. The Correctional Officer is responsible for the general security of his/her assigned post in accordance with prescribed policies and procedures.

The position requires the Correctional Officer to work a flexible schedule, any shift, any day of the week and overtime as required, including holidays and weekends.

Case Manager (no positions currently available)

The Case Manager duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Responsible for the daily care, custody, and supervision of inmates in the correctional institution and makes frequent contact with inmates, criminal justice personnel in courts, parole, and other Houses of Correction as well as community based agencies and other personnel and staff
  • Interview both pre-trial and sentenced inmates and completes a comprehensive intake and needs assessment form normally within 48 hours of admission to the facility
  • Must also access inmates regarding adjustment to the facility and mental and physical status
  • It is also necessary to explain sentence structure and provide necessary criminal justice/general information for a successful facility adjustment
Program Monitor (no positions currently available)

Responsible for the care and custody of clients (probationers, parolees, inmates) assigned to the Community Justice Support Center. Responsible for the security of probationers, parolees, inmates, and all individuals and personnel in the center at all times.

Oversee participant schedules; and monitor drug/alcohol sobriety through urinalysis testing and breathalyzer testing as deemed necessary Direct liaison with Probation, Parole, Courts and other designated Public or Private Agencies; report updates of compliance/non-compliance of drug screens & feedback of client behavior.

Complete all necessary paperwork, reports and documentation. Actively participate in all scheduled security meetings and any other required meetings at the Center. Any other task or duty as assigned or required by Supervisor or Program Manager.

Clinician (no positions currently available)

The Clinician's primary role is to facilitate treatment groups with inmate and probation participants at the Community Justice Support Center. Will be required to maintain appropriate documentation and follow essential curriculum.

The schedule requires a mix of first and second shift availability.

The clinician works under the direction of the Community Justice Center Treatment Manager & Program Manager. Will receive clinical supervision weekly with the on-site Clinical Supervisor.

AE/ASE Teacher (no positions currently available)

Professional, instructional, supervisory, and advisory work with inmates at the Hampshire County Jail and House of Correction in providing academic and workforce-readiness programming; all other duties as required and assigned
